5/30/2006: Tempura Udon..mmm....

I think that sometimes my day can be made by simply ingesting Tempura Udon. This dish sounds pretty simple, but it just tastes better than any chicken noodle soup does when your still nursing off the last of your cold. I went down to the local Udon place (these are buckweat noodles in a broth) and ordered the inexpensive chicken broth with noodles. It comes and you put nori (seaweed), green onions, and pieces of tempura batter into the broth. Then you purchace for about 100 Yen ($1 USD) each: tempura shrimp, onion ball, chicken leg, pork piece, etc.....(basically you can add whatever you want in your soup). A warning: the two dollar broth and noodles and only three pieces of this stuff will fill you right up so don't think with your eyes! I made that mistake the first time I ate here and Japan is not as much of a country of leftover takeout options as the United States is. You need to remember to only order what you will eat otherwise you will leave and feel bad that you didn't eat all your food if they don't have takeout bowls for you to take your leftovers in.

Went to Shibuya station to check out ticket prices at the Bunraku Coccoon. I really wanted to see some local modern dance, but unfortunately all they are featuring right now are West Side Story and Ballet. Both are western shows I have seen before so I decided I'll have to come back when something else is up.

I also broke down today and went to a burger joint called Kua Aina in Shibuya (about $10 USD for a cheesburger and fries which will seem expensive to you Americans out there but keep in mind that pretty much all beef in Japan is imported) to get my red meat fix. It was DELICIOUS but I had to pick off the onions because there were way too many for my sensitive tummy to handle...I would have heartburn for hours if I had that many onions!

Singing out in yummy cheesyness,
